Forget waiting for year-end tax filings, Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) is going digital, introducing a new e-invoicing system that will link cash registers of small and medium-sized businesses directly to the tax system.

With a new e-invoicing system, Namibia’s tax agency will link SME cash registers directly to its own systems, allowing it to track monthly earnings as they happen.

🎯 The goal?

  • Close tax loopholes

  • Cut down on under-declared sales

  • Make compliance easier for honest businesses.

NamRA Commissioner Sam Shivute says it's not about cracking down, but cleaning up: “We want to make it easier to comply, not harder.”

💸 Why This is Important

Namibia loses hundreds of millions each year to tax evasion. If just 10% of SMEs under-report N$50,000 a year, that’s over N$500 million gone from the national purse.

📊 The Global trend

South Africa and Kenya are already making strides towards real-time systems to tackle VAT fraud, and now, Namibia’s joining the digital tax game.

👀 Accountants Should Stay Sharp

This shift means:

✅ More transparency
✅ Less guesswork, and
✅ New advisory opportunities.
